Average rating of 5/5 Highly recommended for light to medium use, 2010-02-27
I have about 100m of hedge, mostly privet, so a good trimmer is important to me. I didn't want a petrol model (too noisy and anti-social) or a corded electric model (limited range and risk of cutting the cable) so in the end I bought a Flymo Sabrecut with a lead-acid battery; it was pretty flimsy and broke quickly. I replaced it with this Bosch model which is MUCH better.

Good points:
- Very quiet in operation, light and easy to handle
- Battery lasts me around an hour of fairly hard use and recharges quickly
- Li-ion battery so it shouldn't lose its capacity over time
- Extremely sharp blades can cope with surprisingly thick and woody stalks (up to 15mm) and instead of 'sticking' the trimmer repeatedly reverses then cuts forward again so it works like a saw - works nicely!

Bad points:
- You need to hold down three different buttons on the handle which is a bit fiddly but does make it safe
- Those buttons are a bit plasticky and I wouldn't be surprised if they are the first thing to break!

Overall I'm very impressed and recommend it as a good buy unless you are trimming a lot of thick branches (>15mm) or for sessions of more than an hour at a time. Good service from Amazon, as always, is another plus.

What a brilliant machine. It is light and easy to use and surprisingly powerful.

My previous cordless hedge trimmer was also a Bosch but 12 Volt and the battery pretty much gave up after 9 years of summertime use.

The 18 Volt Lithium Ion battery technology used in the new machine seems to motor indefinitely. The smaller and lighter battery has to be at the heart of its very superior performance.Bosch AHS 48cm Lithium Ion Cordless Hedgecutter

Average rating of 3/5 Mixed Feelings... Bosch AHS 48cm Lithium Ion Cordless Hedgecutter, 2009-10-26
I have (for my sins), three types of hedges on my property - laurel, conifer and privet. I bought the hedgecutter because of the splendid reviews found on Amazon. My previous Black & Decker (power) hedgecutter had evenually given up the ghost after five years of sterling service. For your information therefore:
1) the battery lasts about an hour before it needs recharging
2) the hedgecutter cuts through privet with ease
3) it struggles a bit with the conifer hedging (taking into account that I would expect it to do so with larger branches)
4) it does not want to know the laurel hedge. Although it makes a valiant attempt to cut the sides, it just "bounces off the top of the hedge" as it does not have the weight or the "punch" to make a clean cut. After several attempts I eventually gave up and used an old Black & Decker power hedgecutter that once belonged to my dad and finished the job in a mere fraction of the time it would have taken with the Bosch (recharginbg times not included). I dread to think of the wear and tear.
Although I would recommend this hedgecutter for certain types of hedges, I am now find myself in the position where I will have to buy a more powerfull machine.
